Associate Research Scientist

The Social intervention Group at Columbia University’s School of Social Work is currently recruiting for an Associate Research Scientist who will serve as a Senior Project Director for the NIDA HEALing Community Study, which is a 4-year NIDA-funded trial to develop and test a County-system Hub and Spoke Empowerment model, to reduce incidence of fatal overdoses in 16  heavily impacted counties in New York State.

We will be implementing and evaluating  a coordinated multi-system, multi-sector public health response to the opioid epidemic, directed by County Health Commissioners, and driven by robust community engagement and real-time learning based on data science and systems science. The study will employ mixed methods to rigorously identify multi-level theory-driven factors that impede or facilitate the implementation and sustainability of this community engagement strategy in each county. The Associate Research Scientist will be supervised by the Principal Investigators and work closely the multidisciplinary investigative team with expertise on OUD and other substance use disorders, HIV, HCV and other comorbid conditions, opioid overdose prevention, pharmacology, data and system science, implementation science, and community-based articipatory research and will include government investigators from NYS Department of Health and NIH. This grant is the New York State (NYS) component of the multi-site Healing Communities study that involves multiple states that will be linked to a Common Data Coordinating Center.

Study Administrative Coordinator

Under the direction of the Senior Director of the NIDA HEALing Initiative, the Study Administrative Coordinator provides a high level of organizational and operational support to the project team by managing travel, and assisting with research activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support to the Project Director, PIs and Co-Investigators at SIG (as related to day-to day operations of the project). Maintains the project’s calendar, coordinates meetings; including booking space, coordinating schedules, and confirming attendees. (40%)
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant financial regulations; responsible for the reconciliation of account expenses to invoices and other appropriate documentation. (10%)
  • Make travel arrangements and accommodations to include air, train and hotel reservations. Submits travel requests. (10%)
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Project Director, the individual will also assist with the preparation and submission of reports.(10%)
  • Assists the Project Director in the planning and logistical arrangements for forums, conferences, seminars, meetings and/or visiting professorships. Assist in the development and coordination of informational packets for participants. Transcribes and distributes minutes. (10%)
  • Prepares documents required to maintain balanced accounts for review and approval. Maintains files, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. (10%)
  • Serves as a liaison with other departments or external parties as necessary to accomplish objectives and/or to complete projects or assignments. (5%)
  • Cross covers for other administrative staff and performs other duties as needed. (5%)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
