Welcoming Professor Alissa Davis as Co-Director of SIG

July 01, 2026

It is a great pleasure and honor to announce that, effective July 1, Professor Alissa Davis will serve as Co-Director of the Social Intervention Group.

Professor Davis brings to this role a deep commitment to SIG’s mission, vision, and future growth. She has been part of the SIG community for more than 11 years, first as a postdoctoral fellow, then as a faculty affiliate, and now as Co-Director. Throughout this time, she has contributed meaningfully to SIG’s research, training, mentorship, and intervention development efforts, helping to strengthen SIG’s impact and advance its leadership in the field.

In her new role, Professor Davis will work closely with Dr. El-Bassel and the SIG management team to strengthen SIG’s infrastructure, advance its research and training agenda, and build on SIG’s long-standing record of innovation, collaboration, and impact. She will collaborate with Maria Cedeno, Director of Administration and Finance; SIG Associate Directors Dr. Timothy Hunt, and Dr. Dawn Goddard-Eckrich; Center for Justice Co-Director Cheryl Wilkens, SIG Associate Director of Operations Audrey Ward, SIG Chief of Staff James David, and the broader SIG team to support the center’s continued growth and success.

Reflecting on her new role, Professor Davis shared: “SIG is a unique research center that focuses on critically important areas of research and training. Over the years, SIG has designed numerous interventions that have been recognized as best practices and has trained many scholars, faculty, students, and community partners. As Co-Director, my mission is to continue advancing this important work, strengthen SIG’s infrastructure, and collaborate with the amazing team and faculty affiliates at SIG.”

SIG Director and University Professor El-Bassel also expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter: “I am delighted to welcome Dr. Davis as Co-Director of SIG. I have had the privilege of collaborating with Alissa since she joined SIG as a postdoctoral fellow. Her vision, commitment, and collaborative leadership style will help ensure that SIG continues to thrive and expand its impact. Professor Davis will be a tremendous asset as she works with faculty affiliates, staff, students, community partners, and the broader SIG community.”

The School, Columbia University community, SIG management team, and faculty are excited to see Professor Davis assume this important leadership role. Her appointment represents an important step forward for SIG as it continues to grow, innovate, and lead in research, training, intervention development, and community-engaged impact.

“As SIG Chief of Staff, I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Davis into this new leadership role,” said James David. “Dr. Davis brings unique expertise, a strong record of scientific productivity, and a deeply collaborative spirit. She is not only an outstanding research scientist, but also a wonderful colleague who is approachable, supportive, and committed to the success of others. I look forward to working with Dr. Davis as she helps lead SIG into its next chapter.”

Please join us in warmly welcoming Professor Alissa Davis to her new role as Co-Director of SIG.

Best,

Nabila El-Bassel and SIG management team
