SIG Staff Share Research at Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health

January 24, 2024

The presentations highlighted HEALing Communities Study work as well as intimate partner violence interventions.

At the 16th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health, held in Arlington, VA, from December 10 to 13, SIG staff presented four posters covering numerous research topics.

Two of the posters related specifically to the HEALing Communities Study (HCS), covering how the study team in New York build dissemination and implementation capacity, and how the study across all four states incorporated big qual and team science into their qualitative research.

Building dissemination and implementation capacity to plan for, implement, and evaluate data-informed, community-tailored health communications campaigns to reduce opioid overdoses. 16th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health, Arlington, VA.

The research featured in this poster details the specific steps, training, and technical resources provided to HCS communities in New York to address community-reported gaps in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health communications campaigns. Previous HCS research provided a broad overview development, implementation and evaluation plan for the HCS campaigns and addressed lessons learned, but this is the first to use the findings from the New York sites, and the technical assistance resources developed to support the HCS-NY community needs.

How perpetration and experience of IPV may be associated with experiencing a non-fatal overdose among men in community supervision programs in New York City and their  female intimate partners. Using actor-partner interdependence. 16th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health, Arlington, VA.

"Casting light on the intricate web of intimate partner violence and non-fatal overdose is really important and our PACT couples manuscript and presentation reveal that understanding the dual perspectives of both actors and partners is paramount. In the shadows of our participants' complex relationships, the actor-partner interdependence emerges as a guide to creating future holistic comprehension and effective intervention," said Dawn Goddard-Eckrich of the research.

Poster of Caribbean research

"This scoping review is important as it highlights the lack of rigorous IPV research in the English speaking Caribbean. However, it was really exciting to see so many international scholars presenting about global implementation science, and the connections to health interventions. There was excitement about our HCS work and New York’s unique approach to community-driven communication interventions."

A second HCS poster, highlighting the work across all four states, features the work of several SIG staffers and students.

Tara McCrimmon, a doctoral student in Sociomedical Sciences who works with SIG, presented a poster at the conference as well.

Developing a decision tool for choosing between antiretroviral therapy (ART) modalities in the context of long-acting ART scale up. 16th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health, Arlington, VA, 10-13 December 2023.

The data presented in this poster was collected as part of Dr Philbin's study "Optimizing HIV adherence by developing a shared decision support tool to facilitate women's choice between oral and LAI ART" (R34 MH124552, funded by NIMH). Specifically, it considers how a decision support tool for HIV treatment shared decision making might actually be implemented in HIV clinic settings, from the perspectives of HIV clinic staff.
