Principal Investigators: Anindita Dasgupta, PhD; Louisa Gilbert, PhD

Project Summary

This study is implementing and evaluating an m-Health syndemic intervention (PrEP for WINGS) that aims to increase HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) initiation among women in community supervision programs including probation, parole and alternative-to-incarceration programs in New York City, and reduce hazardous alcohol drinking, and intimate partner violence (IPV). This intervention is the first PrEP mHealth tool that synergistically addresses IPV, and alcohol-related barriers to PrEP initiation with novel peer navigation and telemedicine components. The study will be evaluated through a hybrid type 1 effectiveness and implementation randomized controlled trial, and will be involve strong collaboration with community organizations across New York City dedicated to improving the health of women impacted by the criminal legal system.

This study will be led by Drs. Anindita Dasgupta, and Louisa Gilbert, and with support from Drs. Mingway Chang, Nabila El-Bassel, Dawn Goddard-Eckrich, Timothy Hunt, and Elwin Wu (co-investigators).
