BV Study

Researching reoccuring bacterial vaginosis (BV) in partnership with the NYC DOHMH

One of the biggest recurring sexual and reproductive health problems among women is bacterial vaginosis (BV), a condition associated with preterm birth, low birth weight, pelvic inflammatory disease, and an increased risk of HIV and STI acquisition. The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) estimates that approximately one third of women receiving physician visits at NYC Sexual Health Clinics have BV, and approximately one-third have a repeat infection within 6 months. Researchers still do not know the cause of BV or how some women get it. How might we end this cycle of recurrence? Dr. Alissa Davis is excited to launch a new BV study in partnership with the NYC DOHMH to find out more.
