Bio
Shimeko Philippov is a graduate student at Columbia University, specializing in policy practice with a background in harm reduction and prior study of the criminal legal system. Shimeko’s work centers community self-determination and justice for marginalized communities through a socio-political lens. Shimeko contributed to the PrEP for WINGS study at the Mailman School of Public Health and is a co-founding member of the East Bay Drug Checking Collaborative. Shimeko supported syringe access in Oakland and Berkeley and currently serves on the California Syringe Exchange Programs (CASEP) POC Council. Across roles, Shimeko champions non-carceral, anti-respectability approaches that center disenfranchised communities.
