What is the evidence for the harm reduction model as an approach to ameliorating drug problems, and how it is applied in practice? This presentation will answer these questions and also include related advances in the overdose crisis and the future of harm reduction.

Presenters

Dr. Holly Hagan (bio)

Dr. Hagan is a Professor at New York University (NYU) College of Global Public Health and Director of the NYU Center for Drug use and HIV Research. Her research has principally focused on the disease consequences of substance use, including HIV and HCV infection, and overdose.

Allan Clear (bio)

Mr. Clear is the Director of the Office of Drug User Health at the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) AIDS Institute, and has 28 years of experience designing and implementing innovative programs to increase access to care for people who use drugs in New York through his tenures as Executive Director for two major community-based organizations.

His work in harm reduction was profiled in the New York Times.
