Practice Guides and Implementation Materials
SIG faculty and staff often contribute their expertise to practice guides and best practice documents developed by governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations. These guides provide detailed instructions on how to implement the interventions they develop and study.
HEALing Communities Study
Developed by the HEALing Communities Initiative, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative®, this guide uses findings from the HEALing Communities Study to assist policymakers, communities, and key stakeholders in developing comprehensive strategies td address the opioid crisis
Created for communities, public health stakeholders and providers of technical assistance, this guide includes a menu of evidence-based practices for reducing opioid overdose deaths and real-world tips for implementing those practices. It provides valuable insights about overdose prevention education and naloxone distribution, effective delivery of medications for opioid use disorder with outreach and delivery to higher risk populations, and safer opioid prescribing and dispensing.
Developed in recognition of the need to center community voices, this guide provides tools and real-world examples that can be used to build and strengthen community coalitions. It is valuable tool for individuals who can help create new coalitions, and support and encourage opportunities to re-envision existing coalitions to address the opioid crisis in their communities.
WINGS
WINGS, identified as a best practice intervention by the CDC, is an evidence-based screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment service tool designed to identify intimate partner and gender based violence among women who use drugs. WINGS can be delivered in one to two sessions and has been integrated with HIV counseling and testing and linkage to HIV treatment interventions.
