About this Event

From the School of Social Work:

Host Richard Hara (bio) sits down with Nabila El-Bassel (bio) to discuss her most ambitious research project to date: a plan to reduce opioid overdose fatalities by at least 40 percent within less than four years in 15 of the most burdened counties in New York State. “We are planning a rapid public health response to the current opioid epidemic in New York State, focusing on policy and system changes by working with the criminal justice system, health care organizations, emergency rooms, schools, and drug treatment programs,” she has told the media. In this episode, El-Bassel will update us on the project's first steps; the necessity of involving multi-disciplinary experts as well as the community; the challenges of executing a state-wide research initiative; and what her highest hopes are for the project.
